The probability of human extinction due to artificial intelligence (AI) is at least 95% if technology development continues at the current pace. This was reported on August 1 by The Times newspaper, citing Nate Soares, a former Google and Microsoft engineer and president of the Institute for Machine Intelligence Research.

"The probability of our (humanity. — Ed.) the extinction rate due to artificial intelligence is "at least 95%" if we continue to follow the current path," the newspaper quotes Soares' opinion.

The Times notes that AI is currently at an early stage of development, but things may change later. Within a certain amount of time, machine intelligence will reach the level of general artificial intelligence (AI), which will lead to equal opportunities with human intelligence.

The newspaper's article notes that at this stage, AI's capabilities will no longer be limited, instead of solving only one simple task, it will be able to cope with several complex ones that require long-term planning, setting goals, judgments and reasoning in various fields of knowledge.

The newspaper emphasizes that artificial intelligence will have "much more advantages over humans" and due to the lack of the need to sleep or take meal breaks. In addition, he will also not need to spend time studying, the AI will simply be able to pass on his knowledge and skills to the next generation.

In the future, artificial intelligence will be able to achieve "artificial superintelligence" (AI), which will lead to its unlimited possibilities. He will be able to do things that people can only dream of, in particular, treating cancer, mastering cold nuclear fusion and much more.

"You can create intelligent computers without having the slightest idea what you're doing. We take enormous computing power and dump it on a truly colossal amount of data in such a way that it somehow shapes computers. No one knows what's going on inside these things," Soares concluded.

American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on July 14 that AI will surpass any human in any field in less than two years. According to him, artificial intelligence is already much smarter than most people, but not yet smarter than any human being.
