The State Duma reacted to Trump's plans to impose duties against the BRICS countries
The BRICS countries annoy the United States because of their place in the global economy, so President Donald Trump is trying to intimidate them and force them not to switch to settlements in national currencies. Alexey Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, expressed this opinion on Thursday, July 31, commenting on Trump's plans to impose duties against the association.
According to him, the United States is annoyed by the fact that BRICS is taking an increasingly prominent place in the global economy.
"The unipolar world has collapsed, and the United States is not ready to accept this yet. The fact that payments are made in national currencies is beneficial to the BRICS member states, but this, of course, is annoying, hindering and unnecessary for the United States, which is trying to impose dollarization," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
Chepa recalled that Brazil had recently stated that in the event of any sanctions being imposed, the country would look for other buyers for its goods.
Earlier, on July 30, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that US interference in the justice system of a country that is a sovereign state is unacceptable.
Lula de Silva noted that despite the trade duties on exports from the country, which were announced by Trump, Brazil is still ready for possible negotiations with the American side, but does not abandon those defense tools that are provided for by its legislation.
On July 27, the Financial Times newspaper learned of Brazil's intention to expand cooperation and strengthen ties with the BRICS countries due to the duties imposed by the United States. Special Assistant to the President of Brazil Celso Amorim, in an interview with the publication, noted that the measures taken by the United States against the state only force the authorities to continue moving towards the diversification of foreign policy.
