Igor Balynin, PhD in Economics, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, said that in August borscht will cost about 20% cheaper due to lower prices for vegetables and herbs, and ingredients for vinaigrette will become cheaper by almost a third.

In conversation with aif.ru On Thursday, July 31, he said that a noticeable decrease in vegetable prices is expected in August due to the massive harvest. According to experts, vinaigrette products will fall in price by 24-27%, and with successful promotions — up to 30-33%.

Balynin explained that this is due to cheaper potatoes (by 1.5–2 times), onions and carrots (by 35%), beets (by 20%), as well as sauerkraut and pickles (by 30% and 15%, respectively). Prices for sunflower oil and canned peas will remain stable, but they can be found cheaper thanks to promotions.

The borscht set will also become cheaper — by 14-20% — due to lower prices for vegetables and herbs with stable prices for meat and spices. With a good harvest, the drop in prices can be even more noticeable.

On July 14, Sergei Mironov, head of the Fair Russia faction, and Yana Lantratova, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Civil Society Development, Public and Religious Associations, appealed to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin with a request to set standards for packaging socially significant goods. This will prevent unfair reduction of their volume and increase control over food prices.
