The doctors who did not interrupt the operation during the earthquake in Kamchatka told Izvestia on July 30 about how they performed the operation despite the threat to their own safety.

"We somehow grouped up, we are a team and we were all in tandem," said Yana Gvozdeva, head of the second surgical department.

She noted that the staff was afraid that the patient might fall off the table, so they focused on holding her down. According to the doctor, no one left the operating room — the team acted smoothly.

In turn, oncologist Lyubov Tsyplakova noted that there were no thoughts of escape — everyone was focused on their task. The anesthesiologist held the equipment, the nurse insured the patient, and the whole team worked as a unit, despite the fear and severe shaking.

"There was no thought of running away somewhere. Our anesthesiologist here held all the equipment with his hands so that it would not fall anywhere," she said.

Earlier, the governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov, announced that the doctors of the oncological dispensary who continued the operation during the earthquake in Kamchatka would be presented with awards.

Later, the governor of the Sakhalin Region, Valery Limarenko, announced that the first wave of the tsunami had hit the territory of the coastal zone of Severo-Kurilsk. He added that residents are being evacuated in the city, and all necessary measures have been taken to ensure people's safety.

On Solodov's instructions, a regional headquarters was deployed in Kamchatka. The region's healthcare system has been put on high alert.
