Most of the participants of the VI World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Geneva love Russia and consider President Vladimir Putin and his policies to be a role model. This was announced to Izvestia by the Vice Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Pyotr Tolstoy, at an event on July 29.

"There is a rather intense inter-parliamentary dialogue going on here. <...> I can say one thing: Russia is loved, Russia is respected. Most of the parliamentarians we meet here consider our president and his foreign policy to be a role model," Tolstoy said.

The Russian delegate also noted that all the calls from the Ukrainian side and the Europeans to boycott the events in Geneva with the participation of Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko were simply ridiculous and turned into a failure.

"We communicate with the whole world, and parliaments from 180 countries are represented in this organization. <...> Our relations with different countries and groups of countries are only improving. The event was organized by our colleagues from Iran, representatives of Africa and Latin America were there, and everyone supports Russia. So nothing will come of their attempts to isolate a great power," the vice speaker said.

Tolstoy also responded to a statement by US Army Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Fritz, who had previously proposed the idea of buying the Commander Islands in the Bering Strait from Russia for $15 billion.

"[If] everything they buy is converted into golf courses, then they will probably succeed along the way, and we can wish them good luck. Russia will not give anything of its own to anyone," the vice speaker said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 2 that Putin maintains dialogue even with those parties with whom the volume of disagreements is critically high. He stressed that the president's approach was in line with Russia's interests.
