South Korea will continue to strive to reduce tensions in its relations with the DPRK. This was announced on July 28 by the representative of the Ministry of Unification of South Korea, Koo Byung Sam.

"The [South Korean] government <... He will calmly and consistently make efforts to achieve inter—Korean reconciliation and cooperation, as well as achieve mutual peace on the Korean peninsula," Yonhap news agency quoted him as saying.

The minister spoke about the "high walls of distrust" between the two countries, insisting on the need for further steps towards improving relations.

Earlier in the day, Kim Yo Jong stated that North Korea is not interested in reconciliation with South Korea. The message was a response to the measures taken by the current President of South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, to try to start reconciliation with the DPRK. It is noted that the South Korean president's promise to adhere to the policy of the South Korean-American security alliance demonstrates his similarity to his predecessor Yun Seok-yeol.
