An investigation has been organized into the death of swimmer Dmitry Ionov during the X-Waters Volga swim in Nizhny Novgorod. This was announced on July 27 by the press service of the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

"According to this fact, the investigator of the investigative department for the Nizhny Novgorod district of Nizhny Novgorod of the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region organized a procedural check," the department's Telegram channel says.

It is noted that investigators are establishing the causes and conditions under which the incident occurred, and a decision will be made after a procedural check.

The day before, it was reported that the participant of the Ion swim died due to a health problem that arose during the course. According to the press service of the competition, before the finish, the swimmer became ill and he turned to rescuers, who evacuated him with loss of consciousness. Despite receiving emergency treatment, the man died in intensive care.
