Turkey reports on Israel's interception of a ship with humanitarian cargo
The Israeli Navy intercepted the ship Handala, which was heading to the Gaza Strip with humanitarian cargo. This was reported by the Andalou agency on Saturday, July 26.
"Late on Saturday evening, Israeli forces stormed the Handala aid vessel bound for Gaza, with 21 people on board. A live broadcast captured the moment when Israeli soldiers broke into the ship, armed, and ordered the activists to raise their hands," the publication said.
The fate of the ship's crew is unknown, as the live broadcast on the ship was interrupted.
It was also reported that shortly before that, Handala had sent a distress signal due to the approach of the Israeli Navy.
The Handala ship was traveling from Italy with humanitarian aid for the residents of the Gaza Strip in the form of baby food, food and medicines. The Agency noted that the delivery of aid was carried out in accordance with international maritime and humanitarian law, and the people on board were unarmed.
Earlier in June, the Spanish leftist coalition Sumar and the Podemos party called for severing relations with Israel after their forces intercepted the ship Madeleine, bound for the Gaza Strip.
On June 9, activist Greta Thunberg accused the Israeli authorities of kidnapping her after her ship Madeleine was not allowed to enter Gaza on a humanitarian mission, as the activist herself stated. In her appeal, she called on her family, friends and colleagues to put pressure on the Swedish government to achieve the immediate release of all participants in the mission, including herself. The next day, Thunberg returned to Sweden.
