- The United States announced a review of the status of military personnel controlling migration
The administration of US President Donald Trump has sent about 1,700 military personnel to the state governors to assist in the implementation of immigration law enforcement tasks. This was reported on July 25 by Reuters with reference to the United States Department of Defense.
"Thanks to active planning and cooperation with our partners from ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The agency has determined that specific operational needs may require direct interaction with persons in ICE custody, which has led to a reassessment of the service status of military personnel," the agency quoted Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell as saying.
It is noted that the service status of 1.2 thousand people who had previously participated in similar operations has now been changed. At the same time, 500 more military personnel were also authorized to assist in the immigration initiative.
Earlier, on July 10, the WSJ newspaper learned about the US attempt to force African countries to accept deported migrants. It is noted that the relevant requests were received by the leaders of Liberia, Senegal, Mauritania, Gabon and Guinea-Bissau after arriving at the White House for a meeting with Trump.
On June 26, it was reported that ICE, despite promising to expel the "worst of the worst" from the country, detained only 6% of the thousands of illegal immigrants convicted of murder. According to NBC, of the 13,000 immigrants who committed murder, which ICE reported to Congress in September, between October 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025, they managed to detain only 752 people.
