The surgeon told about the most dangerous type of surgery
The most dangerous types of medical operations include those involving the heart and brain. Ramil Guliyev, a surgeon and laparoscopy specialist, told Gazeta about this on July 26.Ru».
"For example, heart surgery. Imagine: the heart needs to be stopped. Completely. Connect a device that will pump blood for it, while we, in fact, sort it out manually. Then run it again. Does it sound scary? This is the reality in cardiac surgery," the specialist shared.
He also noted the possible risks when performing operations on the human brain. With such interventions, an error of even one millimeter can lead to a patient's loss of speech, memory, or vision. And some actions can deprive you of several senses and abilities at the same time.
"We perform such wake-up surgeries: the patient speaks, moves his arm, solves simple tasks while we remove the tumor. So as not to offend the important ones. This is a very delicate job," Guliyev said.
Organ transplantation operations such as kidneys, liver or lungs are also dangerous. At the same time, even an ideally performed medical procedure can have consequences that will manifest themselves in the future. It all depends on the body's response and immunity to the new organ.
"There are also such interventions, which in themselves are like a time bomb. For example, pancreatoduodenectomy, or Whipple surgery. This is probably one of the most difficult operations in surgery. We remove the head of the pancreas, part of the stomach, the duodenum and the bile ducts, and then we reconnect it all. The pancreas is an organ with a "character": if it starts to "leak", the enzymes will literally digest the tissues from the inside," the surgeon pointed out.
He noted that in such cases, every stage of the fight against the disease is important — from the technique of performing the procedure itself to monitoring the patient after medical intervention.
If a person with a late-stage tumor has been admitted for surgery, affecting many organs or blood vessels of the body, then several medical teams are working on the surgical table at the same time.
"I remember a young man, 38 years old, who came in with chest pain. The doctor in the waiting room said, "Most likely, the aorta is exfoliating." This is very dangerous — if you do not intervene in time, death can occur in two hours. We rushed him to the operating room. A day later, he's in intensive care, and a month later, he's walking on his own. Then I came for an examination with flowers," the doctor shared a case from practice.
The surgeon added that you should not be afraid if the doctors reported that the operation would be "difficult." Such an assessment does not mean increased danger or guaranteed failure, but indicates the need for more attention, as well as an appropriate experienced team of doctors.
It will also be useful to ask the specialist questions about the medical procedure. For example, how important is the operation, what risks are possible, who exactly will perform it, and what will happen if the surgeon refuses to intervene.
"And if you feel that you haven't received an answer, take a second opinion. It is ok. Dangerous operations are not a reason for heroism. This is a necessity. We doctors take risks so that a person has a chance. And yes, things don't always go smoothly. But more often it passes. Because behind every such operation there is not only experience and technique, but also a desire to make the impossible possible," Guliyev concluded.
On July 24, surgeons at a local hospital in the Sverdlovsk Region restored the skull of a veteran of a special military operation using 3D technology. It is noted that the captain suffered a head wound during artillery fire with the destruction of more than 90% of the frontal, temporal and parietal bones of the skull, as well as the frontal sinuses and nasal bones. At the same time, the patient's condition stabilized after surgery.
