The heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will be mothballed — this decision has already been made in the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy. Informed sources told Izvestia about this.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, in the future it will either be disposed of or sold.

The former commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Sergey Avakyants, said that during conservation, all the mechanisms that can be used are removed — they are then used as spare parts for installation on other vessels and ships.

A minimum crew will remain on the mothballed ship, which will need to monitor the condition of the aircraft carrier, Sergey Avakyants specified.

"If the full crew at one time was 2.2 thousand people, then in order to monitor such an object in a mothballed form, it is unlikely that more than 150-200 people will be needed. First of all, they must control the flow of water, make sure that no fire occurs," the admiral explained.

In his opinion, in case of disposal, the aircraft carrier is likely to be dismantled. Moreover, this will most likely be done in Russia, since the metal market is saturated and other countries are unlikely to take up the cutting of an aircraft carrier.

The decision on what to do with the ship will be made by the Navy — it is he who owns the ship — this will be done based on the tasks assigned to him, military expert Dmitry Boltenkov agrees.
