The EP deputy spoke about the "drug dependence" of the European Union on sanctions
EU countries are addicted to sanctions, just like people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs. European Parliament deputy Thierry Mariani told Izvestia about this on July 25.
According to him, the EU may introduce a new package of restrictions against Russia as early as October.
"On the one hand, there is the United States, which is interested in peace, and on the other, the EU, which wants to continue the conflict. New sanctions may well be introduced in October. The EU is addicted to them, just as there are people addicted to alcohol or drugs. This is a kind of desire for retribution," Mariani said.
As MEP Ivan David emphasized in his turn, the restrictions will not be able to affect the Russian economy of the Russian Federation. In addition, anti—Russian restrictions are a provocation not only against the Russian Federation, but also against other countries of the world that cooperate with Moscow. The sanctions, he said, irritate, for example, banks and transport companies from China and other countries.
Yesterday, the chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, during a press conference following the spring session, said that sanctions against Russia were not only hitting Europe, but could also seriously shake the global economy.
Sergei Glazyev, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and the Russian Federation, said on July 20 that EU sanctions against Moscow were very expensive for unification and hit Europe much harder than Russia. He also noted that Europe would not be able to correct the current situation through militarization.
