The British Cabinet is pushing Prime Minister Keir Starmer to accelerate recognition of the State of Palestine and support for the residents of the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 25, citing sources.

"British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing pressure from senior members of his government and French President Emmanuel Macron, demanding the early recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state due to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza," the agency noted.

As Bloomberg reported, some British ministers are disappointed with the slowness of Starmer and the country's foreign minister, David Lemmy.

Earlier, on July 24, Macron announced his intention to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in 2026. He noted that this will contribute to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as well as rescue and comprehensive assistance to local residents.

On the same day, Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh expressed gratitude to Macron for recognizing the state. He stressed that this step by France shows the country's commitment to international law.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez supported Macron's position, noting that the creation of two states is the only solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
