- Macron announced his intention to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in 2026
French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the country will recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in 2026 in order to achieve peace in the Middle East. He wrote about this on July 24 in the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"True to my historical commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided to recognize the State of Palestine by France. I will make this solemn statement at the United Nations General Assembly next September," the message says.
He noted that this will contribute to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as well as rescue and comprehensive assistance to local residents. The recognition of the country of Palestine will allow the demilitarization of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas and ensure security in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier in the day, the United States recalled the negotiating team from Doha after a response from Hamas, which does not intend to reach a truce in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the United States intends to consider alternative ways to return the hostages from Gaza in connection with the response of the negotiating team.
The day before, it was reported that Israel offered Hamas to release 125 Palestinians sentenced to life in prison in exchange for hostages during negotiations on a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. According to media reports, the Israeli side also expressed its readiness to release 1,100 Palestinians detained after October 7, 2023.
