The economic sanctions imposed by the United States and Europe on the healthcare systems of countries with low living standards led to the premature death of over 560,000 people per year between 1971 and 2021. This is five times higher than the annual death rate during military conflicts over the same period. This was confirmed on July 23 by a study in The Lancet Global Health medical journal.

The researchers analyzed cases of sanctions against 152 countries. According to them, restrictions from the United States and Europe lead to more severe consequences for the population than restrictions from the United Nations.

"It is difficult to imagine other policy interventions that would have such detrimental effects on human life and are still widely used," the study says.

According to the publication, since 1960, the share of countries that have been subjected to unilateral sanctions in global GDP has increased to 24.7% from 5.4%.

Earlier, on July 18, the French newspaper Le Parisien, citing experts, predicted great damage to Washington in the event of new sanctions by US President Donald Trump against Russia. David Turtry, a lecturer at the Catholic Institute of Higher Studies (ICES), also noted the Europeans' lack of leverage over Russia.
