Hungary reported unwillingness to abandon oil and gas from Russia
Hungary will not allow the European Union (EU) to ban the country from using Russian oil and gas. This was announced on July 22 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.
"We will not allow this, Hungary comes first for us. I made this clear to the EU ambassadors in Budapest," the diplomat wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
Szijjarto stressed that the EU authorities want to ban Hungary from using cheap energy from Russia, which threatens to increase utility costs.
The day before, Szijjarto said that Hungary, Serbia and Russia had discussed the construction of a new oil pipeline to supply oil from Russia. Szijjarto also posted photos from the trilateral talks, which took place in the format of a teleconference.
