The Hague District Court has overturned a decision to seize the assets of Russian energy giant Gazprom in the Netherlands. This was reported on July 22 by the Reuters news agency with reference to the resolution.

"The court ruled that the seizure of Gazprom's assets may violate the principle of state immunity, which means that Dutch courts cannot judge the actions of another state or a state entity," the material says.

It is specified that the assets are shares in the gas producing companies Wintershall Noordzee and Gazprom International Projects BV, which are part of the Gazprom group.

Gazprom's Wintershall Noordzee stake was seized in September 2024 at the request of the Ukrainian company Slavutich-Invest. Gazprom's assets in the Netherlands were also seized following a separate lawsuit filed by another Ukrainian company, Zhniva.

Earlier, on July 14, Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (listed on the Russian list of terrorists and extremists) announced that the leaders of the European Union were considering the possibility of using frozen Russian assets of $305 billion in Europe and $5 billion in the United States to increase pressure on Russia and force negotiations with Ukraine.
