AvtoVAZ may switch to a four-day working week
AvtoVAZ in early autumn will consider the possibility of changing the schedule of its production sites from September 29. The decision to introduce a four-day part-time workweek will be made based on an analysis of the market situation and economic factors. This is stated in the statement of AVTOVAZ, which was received by Izvestia on July 22.
"A possible change in the operating mode is due to general trends in the Russian automotive market. We are talking about a high key interest rate and stricter regulatory requirements for car loan borrowers," the company explained.
Other reasons for the difficult market situation at AvtoVAZ were the significant number of foreign cars exported to the Russian Federation (mainly in 2024) and the policy of price dumping by imported brands (their stocks of unsold cars are estimated at 400 thousand units).
The company added that it continues to work on the development and production of new models and on sales promotion. The social obligations will be fulfilled in full in accordance with the current collective agreement, the automaker emphasized.
Earlier, on July 4, it was reported that in the first half of 2025, 530,375 new passenger cars were sold in the Russian Federation, which is 26.3% less than in the six months of last year.
