Almost 300 NASA employees expressed dissatisfaction with Trump's policy
Almost 300 current and former NASA employees signed The Voyager Declaration, which reflected criticism of the policies of the administration of US President Donald Trump. The declaration was published on July 21 on the official website of the American Stand Up For Science movement.
"We draw your attention to recent policies that lead or threaten to lead to the waste of public resources, endanger human security, weaken national security and undermine the core mission of NASA. We, the signatories of this letter, do not agree with this policy," the document says.
NASA employees noted that they did not agree with the many staff reductions, the lack and withdrawal of funding for space research, the refusal to participate in international missions and the termination of grants and contracts with NASA. They added that all these actions reflect the priority of Trump's policy towards "political momentum" rather than human security and scientific progress.
Earlier, on July 9, it was reported that the mass departure of NASA employees could seriously affect the implementation of key US space programs, including missions to the Moon and Mars. According to the newspaper, 2,694 government employees have already left NASA — and this is only half of the planned cuts by the White House.
