The International Handball Federation (IHF) has appealed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the return of Russians and Belarusians to the competition. The president of the organization Hassan Mustafa announced this on July 19.

"IHF appealed to the IOC, emphasizing on behalf of the entire international handball family the importance of the participation of Russian and Belarusian teams in international handball competitions in the interests of further development and popularization of our favorite sport around the world," follows from his statement published on the website of the Belarusian Handball Federation.

According to him, after exchanging information with the IOC, the federation provided a scenario for the possible return of the Russian and Belarusian teams to international handball competitions. Mustafa stressed that IHF is still waiting for an official response from the committee.

The President of the Federation expressed hope for the normalization of the situation and noted that he was looking forward to welcoming Russian and Belarusian athletes to the handball courts.

Earlier, on July 11, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) allowed Russians and Belarusians to reapply for neutral status, which had previously been rejected. It was clarified that this would help to increase the fairness and transparency of the procedure.

Later, on July 15, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), called FIG's decision to ease conditions for Russians important for young gymnasts.
