Two thirds of Americans support the idea of sending US astronauts to the moon and Mars. This was confirmed on July 18 by a CBS News poll.

"Society is very supportive of the idea of the United States returning to the Moon and eventually to Mars," the publication says.

It is specified that of the 2.4 thousand adult Americans surveyed, 67% approved of the idea of sending astronauts to the Moon, while 65% voted for sending them to Mars. The publication noted that a possible reason for the interest in this among young people is the desire to see such studies of Americans during their lifetime.

Moreover, 29% of respondents think that the US space program slightly enhances the sense of national pride, the newspaper notes. About 44% do not rate her so highly, and 27% of respondents in principle do not consider her a reason for pride.

The Politico newspaper reported on July 9 that the mass departure of NASA employees could seriously affect the implementation of key US space programs, including missions to the Moon and Mars. According to the newspaper, 2,694 government employees have already left NASA — and this is only half of the planned cuts by the White House.
