The Palestinian Hamas movement may refuse to release 10 hostages in the Gaza Strip if the ceasefire talks drag on. This was announced on July 18 by Abu Ubaida, a representative of the military wing of Hamas, the Izzaddin al—Qassam Brigades.

"If the enemy negotiators continue to persist or disrupt the ongoing consultations, we may not agree to conclude partial deals, as well as to release 10 hostages," Ubaida said, his speech was posted on the Al Jazeera YouTube channel.

He also added that the Palestinian movement has repeatedly offered to release all prisoners for a truce.

On July 6, The Financial Times reported that serious negotiations to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip would begin on the first day of the truce. The publication noted that the mediators will also provide guarantees for the extension of the truce if it takes more time to conclude a deal on the final conclusion of the conflict.
