The seizure and destruction of Russian books from libraries in Ukraine impoverishes the country and resembles the burning of books in Germany in the last century. Alexander Sholokhov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture, expressed this opinion on Friday, July 18.

"I cannot be responsible for the accuracy of this information, so let's discuss it hypothetically, although the probability is certainly high, many steps have already been taken along this path. If this is true, then this is a continuation of the previous impotent policy, in fact, it is very reminiscent of [19]33 and the famous burning of books on a square in Berlin," the MP said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The parliamentarian stressed that this gives Ukraine nothing but impoverishment in every sense.

Earlier, former Russian Prime Minister Sergei Stepashin said that President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky decided to withdraw from libraries and destroy all books in Russian. 360.ru .
