The birth and upbringing of children cannot be equated to an employment relationship and should not be paid in the form of wages. This was announced on Wednesday, July 16, by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.

"Having a child is a family relationship, it's not an employment relationship. And setting wages for the birth of a child is, in principle, ideologically not very correct," Golikova stressed during government hour in the State Duma.

A State Duma deputy from the Fair Russia for Truth party suggested that the Deputy Prime Minister recognize a woman's work in giving birth and raising children as paid, as well as provide families with social rental housing with the right to buy.
