A criminal case was opened against the editor-in-chief of the Insider edition
The prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case on the activities of an undesirable foreign organization in Russia against Timur Olevsky, the editor-in-chief of The Insider (recognized in Russia as a foreign media agent and undesirable organization). This was reported on July 16 in the Telegram channel of the department.
It is clarified that Olevsky, who was brought to administrative responsibility for participating in the activities of an undesirable organization on the territory of the Russian Federation, continued to hold the position of editor-in-chief outside of Russia. In addition, the defendant took part in the publication of three videos in which anti-Russian rhetoric is promoted, a negative opinion is formed about Russian politics and government authorities are discredited.
"Based on the inspection materials, a criminal case has been opened against Timur Olevsky under Part 1 of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Carrying out the activities of a foreign organization in respect of which a decision has been taken to declare its activities undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation")," the publication says.
Earlier, on July 3, 2024, the Cheremushkinsky District Court of Moscow registered an administrative protocol on participation in an undesirable organization against the founder and editor-in-chief of The Insider online publication (recognized in Russia as a foreign media agent) Roman Dobrokhotov (also included in the register of foreign agents).
Then the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation announced that it had decided to recognize The Insider's activities in the territory of the Russian Federation as undesirable. In August of the same year, the journalist was arrested in absentia for illegally crossing the border with Ukraine.
