Some European Union (EU) countries learned about their participation in US President Donald Trump's plan to supply weapons to Ukraine through European mediation only after the American leader's official statement on the adoption of this initiative. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on July 16.

It is noted that Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and Canada have expressed a desire to participate in the arms procurement program.

"Senior sources at the embassies of two of these countries in the United States said <...> that they personally learned about this plan when it was announced. Even close US allies seem to have learned about this proposal in real time," the article says.

According to the European official, the countries were also not informed about the details in advance. He suggested that the Trump administration was only now beginning to figure out what the American leader's proposal "means in practice."

On July 14, Trump announced that the United States and the EU had reached an agreement on the supply of weapons to Kiev. According to him, the United States will produce weapons for Ukraine, and European countries will pay for them.
