The initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science to increase the detail of university graduates' diplomas requires further discussion. This was announced on July 16 by the rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy.

"It is also necessary, in our opinion, to additionally discuss the expediency of specifying in the diploma supplement a list of types and fields of professional activity in which a graduate has the right to work," he is quoted as saying on the university's website.

It is clarified that the draft law proposed by the ministry stated that the level of professional education and qualifications indicated in diplomas give their holders the right to engage in certain professional activities, including holding positions established by the legislation of the Russian Federation.

According to Sadovnichy, such details will limit the opportunities of graduates in terms of further professional activity. According to him, the initiative needs further discussion in the educational community.

The Rector of Moscow State University also proposed to strengthen guarantees for universities in all regions of Russia for the implementation of master's and postgraduate programs in order to preserve and continue to develop regional scientific schools.

Dmitry Afanasyev, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science, said on July 9 that Russia would be able to switch to a new higher education system by 2027. In addition, it was noted that the Ministry of Education and Science also wants to increase the number of universities participating in the pilot project of the new system.
