In order to expand trade and investment within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), guaranteed transit between the participating states and the development of the North—South International Transport corridor (ITC) are necessary. This was announced on July 15 by Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar following his participation in a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers in Tianjin.

"Deepening cooperation within the SCO naturally requires the expansion of trade, investment and exchanges. In order for this cooperation to reach a new level, it is necessary to solve a number of current problems. One of them is the lack of guaranteed transit in the SCO space," he wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

According to him, the lack of transit guarantees undermines the seriousness of supporting economic cooperation.

Earlier, on June 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that Russia and Turkmenistan will play an important role in the implementation of the North—South Cooperation and Cooperation Center projects. According to him, there are a number of issues on the agenda that require substantive attention, including within the framework of the MTK project.
