The decision of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to ease the conditions for the admission of Russians to competitions is important for young gymnasts. This was announced on July 15 by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Mikhail Degtyarev.

"Serious progress is taking place in gymnastics, as evidenced by the latest decision of the FIG Executive Committee <...>. The conditions for admission of our gymnasts have been relaxed, and now our athletes are allowed to participate in group and team competitions," he said.

Degtyarev said that on July 8, he met with FIG President Morinari Watanabe in Lausanne. During the meeting, they also discussed this issue.

In addition, the President of the ROC stressed that the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation will continue to support the Russian Gymnastics Federation in ensuring the rights of Russian athletes and their full participation in international sporting events.

Earlier, on July 11, FIG allowed Russians and Belarusians to reapply for neutral status, which had previously been rejected. It was clarified that this would help to increase the fairness and transparency of the procedure.
