- The IAEA was informed about the Ukrainian UAV strike on the administration of Energodar
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been informed about the attack of a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on the administration of Energodar in the Zaporizhia region. This was announced on July 12 by the organization's Director General, Rafael Grossi.
"During today's visit to Energodar, members of the IAEA group working at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. — Ed.), visited the mayor's office and saw damage on the roof of the building, which, as they were informed, was caused by a drone strike," the agency said.
There was no information about the victims of the attack on the city located 5 km from the NPP. It is reported that such incidents can further jeopardize nuclear safety during the Ukrainian conflict.
"As drone attacks have become more frequent, the risks they pose to the safety of nuclear power plants have increased. I am deeply concerned about the increasing frequency of such incidents," Grossi added.
According to him, such strikes also negatively affect the psychological state of the NPP employees.
A kamikaze drone strike on the administration of Energodar was reported a day earlier. The day before, the Ukrainian Armed Forces also attacked an apartment building, as a result of which the facade of the building was damaged.
On July 9, Grossi warned of the risk of disaster in the event of a nuclear power plant strike. In addition, the head of the IAEA ruled out a repeat of the Chernobyl scenario. According to him, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was not protected by a dome, and the energy process was controlled using combustible graphite.
