Former Argentine President Alberto Fernandez has been prosecuted for corrupt practices in concluding insurance contracts with government agencies. This was reported by the Clarin newspaper on July 11.

"The former head of state was brought to justice for the crime of negotiating incompatible with public office, with the imposition of an embargo on more than 14.6 billion pesos," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, Fernandez promoted the interests of broker Hector Martinez Sosa, who was part of his inner circle, and his wife and former secretary Maria Cantero.

It is specified that about 40 persons involved in the crime were found in the framework of this case. All of them are accused of joint coordinated and functional interference in the scheme of collecting and distributing public funds.

Earlier, on June 30, it was reported that the mayor of Nice and his wife had been detained on suspicion of corruption. They were subpoenaed on Monday as part of an investigation into suspected misappropriation of public funds and illegal interest payments.
