Russian basketball player Daniil Kasatkin, who was detained in France at the request of the United States, is currently in isolation. This was announced on July 10 by the athlete's lawyer Vladimir Sarukhanov in an interview with Sport-Express.

"At our request, on July 9, we asked to choose a preventive measure not related to detention in the so-called receiver-distributor. This is not a prison in the classical sense, but a block where they keep people who have something with passports, issuance, extradition. That is, of course, he is not sitting with French criminals," he said.

The lawyer clarified that the judges who collectively considered the petition in the case did not even discuss the issue of releasing Kasatkin on bail, despite such an offer from the athlete's defense.

Sarukhanov added that the basketball player's accusations of cybercrime are still denied by the defense.

Earlier that day, it became known that the basketball player was detained in France on June 21 on suspicion that he was a member of a hacker network operating with the help of extortion programs. The arrest took place at Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport, where the athlete arrived with his fiancee. It is noted that Kasatkin does not admit guilt.

According to Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Embassy in Paris is dealing with the issue of Daniil Kasatkin's detention in France.
