The AfD leader pointed out that Merz ignored his obligations to the citizens.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has shown his inability to fulfill his own promises to citizens by traveling the world instead of solving domestic problems. This was announced on July 9 by Alice Weidel, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"At least the citizens know what to expect [from Merz and his Christian Democratic Union]. Namely, nothing, nothing at all. Their word is worthless, even if it is written in black and white in their paltry coalition agreement [with the Social Democrats from the SPD]. You are a paper chancellor who plays the role of a world leader abroad, but at home allows the SPD, which lost the election, to act at its discretion," she said, addressing the chancellor at a meeting of the Bundestag.
The AfD leader noted that the government constantly justifies non-fulfillment of obligations to citizens by lack of money. At the same time, Merz himself offers the United States to sell weapons to Berlin for Ukraine for the money of German taxpayers.
"As a crown of ridicule, you tell the Germans that they need to work harder. No, Mr. Merz. Not hardworking people in our country <...> we have to work even harder. You should keep your word, do your duty, and stop throwing citizens' money out the window that doesn't belong to you," the politician said.
Earlier, on July 5, AdG co-chairman Tino Fragalla called on Merz to start a dialogue with Russia and resume Russian gas supplies to Germany. The politician also noted the need to repair the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
