In Germany, the number of companies operating in the military-industrial complex (MIC) has increased fivefold since 2017. This was reported on July 7 by the Wirtschafts Woche (WW) newspaper with reference to the Federal Association of German Security and Defense Industry (BSV).

"340 companies are members of our company, which is 100 more than at the end of last year," said Hans Christoph Atzpodien, Executive Director of BSV.

According to the publication, in 2017, there were only 70 companies working in the BSV. However, the names of the new members of the association were not announced.

According to WW, this growth is due to the crisis in the German automotive industry, which is why companies are refocusing on the military-industrial complex.

Earlier, on June 3, about 20 thousand employees of the German automobile concern Volkswagen AG agreed to be dismissed in connection with the cost-cutting package adopted by the plant. It was clarified that 2/3 of the dismissed employees will retire, while all those who have left will receive severance pay depending on their length of service.
