Cybersecurity expert Alexey Rayevsky told on Monday, July 7, what users should do to stop possible surveillance through smart devices.

According to the expert, vulnerabilities appear in the devices during operation, which the manufacturer is in no hurry to eliminate. Fraudsters can take advantage of this by introducing special malicious software (software) into gadgets to collect information.

"In fact, an ordinary user who is not an IT or information security specialist has very few mechanisms and levers to influence this situation. One way is to keep track of program updates and update them on time. But here the user is being held hostage by the device manufacturer, which may simply untimely release "patches" for emerging vulnerabilities," Rayevsky said in an interview with aif.ru .

The expert noted that if a smart device does not need to be connected to the Internet and a video camera to function, then it is better not to do this.

Earlier on July 7, Vladimir Zykov, an IT expert and director of the Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers, told RT that hackers connect to users' webcams, for example, to blackmail, and this can be noticed: for example, the camera indicator may blink if no applications using it are running.

Earlier that day, it was reported that scammers on Telegram began using the new "suggested posts" feature to send phishing links to owners of major channels, disguising them as interesting content. The main trick is to offer the administrator a generous fee so that he wants to study the details via a link that leads to a phishing resource.

In turn, the Ministry of State Administration of the Moscow region warned residents against the new fraud scheme. Potential victims are being contacted allegedly from the military enlistment office in order to gain access to an account on Gosuslugi, reports <url>. 360.ru .

On June 24, the Moscow City News Agency reported that cases of a new fraudulent scheme had been identified — attackers fraudulently gain access to Yandex Market user accounts and make unauthorized purchases.
