The expert explained the downward trend in prices in the secondary car market
The Russian used car market is showing an unusual dynamic: three-year-old cars have started to lose value, and this trend will continue in the coming months. The decline in prices on the secondary market is due to several factors. Ilya Shilov, Director of Development at Forsage Lubricants, told Izvestia about this on July 7.
The main reason is the increased availability of new cars, especially Chinese brands, which have increased competition in the secondary market. Fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate also played a significant role, making imported models slightly more profitable for buyers. According to Shilov, the price decline will continue, but it will be gradual: the market has become more balanced, buyers are not in a hurry to make choices, and sellers are increasingly making concessions.
"The decrease in prices is especially noticeable in the segment of mass models, where supply significantly exceeds demand. Previously, a good car with an automatic transmission could leave on the day the ad was published, but now buyers carefully study the options, check the service history and compare prices," said Shilov.
Paradoxically, with the growth of money turnover in the market, the activity of transactions decreased. This is due to expensive loans and oversupply. As the expert explained, prices may continue to decline smoothly in summer and autumn, especially for used cars. However, a sharp collapse should not be expected — sellers have learned to adapt to new conditions, and buyers have become more cautious.
A key factor for the revival of the market may be a reduction in loan rates, which could potentially increase demand closer to autumn. At the same time, Shilov emphasizes that cars with a transparent history and good condition still find buyers quickly, while cars with twisted mileage or hidden damage are delayed in sale. The trend towards buyer discretion, according to the expert, is fundamentally changing the rules of the game in the secondary market.
On July 4, auto experts from Avtospeccenter Group of Companies said that the most unpopular cars among car thieves are models with advanced standard immobilizers and new-generation telematics. According to experts, resistance to theft is determined not so much by the cost of the car as by the level of integration of electronic protection systems.
