Western countries have become more aggressive in introducing their ideological ultimatums into the dialogue on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, which negatively affects their achievement. This was announced on July 6 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"The increasingly aggressive attempts by the West to introduce ideological ultimatums based on Western interpretations of human rights and democracy into dialogue as almost the main criteria have an extremely negative impact on the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals," he said at the session of the XVI BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro.

He also noted that Russia proposed to form a New investment platform within the framework of the BRICS with the participation of the New Development Bank (NDB) in order to mobilize resources and focus them on the needs and development goals of the participating countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking via video link at the plenary session of the XVII BRICS summit on July 6, said that the member states of the association significantly outperform the G7 countries in economic terms. He noted that the combined GDP of countries in terms of purchasing power, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for this year, has already reached $77 trillion.
