Fyodor Smolov's wife commented on the incident in a cafe with the participation of a football player.

The ex-striker of the Krasnodar football club Fedor Smolov, after a conflict with visitors to one of the establishments in Moscow, repented and apologized to the victims, offering them compensation. This was announced on July 5 by the athlete's wife Karina Istomina.

"Fighting is absolutely unacceptable! And believe me, my husband knows this better than anyone else and is very sorry about what happened. <...> This situation was a mistake that Fedor wanted to fix. <...> My husband repented, apologized and offered compensation," she wrote on the Telegram channel.

However, despite Smolov's attempts to fix the incident, he faced extortion. At the same time, the amount requested from the football player began to grow rapidly over time, the girl continued.

"In the future, the amount was requested more and more, and who knows what the next one would be. We realized that reconciliation of the parties is impossible, and refused dubious conditions," Istomina said.

She also said that throughout his career Smolov faced regular harassment both on the Internet and in real life. According to her, people could have taunted him in the back, recalled a penalty, or even insulted him to his face, without expecting a response. Now the football player is working on this incident in therapy, Istomina added.

Smolov came into conflict with two visitors to a Moscow restaurant in late May, but footage of the incident appeared online only on July 5. It was noted at the time that the cause of the conflict was unknown, but there were suggestions that the player had been provoked.
