Fraudulent schemes under the pretext of employment occur regularly. The attackers take advantage of the fact that during job interviews and job placement, the applicant must provide his personal data to the potential employer. The purpose of these attacks is theft and extortion of money, obtaining personal data for use in other criminal schemes, Roman Alabin, head of the InfoWatch Information security group, told Izvestia 3.

"Previously, criminal schemes were common in the field of employment, when applicants were offered to pay for training to get a job, for a "guaranteed" resume promotion or employment in a specific company, and the like," he said.

According to him, now the attackers have become more active through messengers. Such schemes differ in details, but in general they are of the same type: attackers under the guise of recruiters allegedly invite you to work, ask you to click on a link, transfer your personal data or issue a bank card to transfer it to fraudsters — under the pretext of receiving a salary for it.

In this way, fraudsters receive other people's data and use it for their own purposes, for example, to apply for loans or in criminal schemes involving the registration of vehicles. Fraudsters use the victim's bank card to transfer funds in other criminal schemes, and the victim becomes a "dropper" involuntarily and risks becoming the focus of attention of law enforcement agencies.

"When considering a vacancy, it is necessary to verify its authenticity: find vacancies through the search engine on the official website and the company's pages on recruiting resources. In the absence of a vacancy or in case of suspicion, you should contact the HR department by phone from the company's official website and clarify whether the company's employees really contacted you," the expert said.

You should pay attention to the accounts of those who contact you under the guise of recruiters. It is better to communicate via email — the recruiter should communicate from a work address on the corporate domain.

In Magadan, a 73-year-old man became a victim of fraud. The pensioner received a message in the messenger allegedly from the head. The text stated that law enforcement officials should contact the man. Soon, a stranger called the pensioner, who stated that fraudulent actions had been recorded on the bank accounts of the Magadan resident. The victim agreed to transfer 2 million rubles to a "protected" account.
