And the password is naked: who is not allowed to post explicit photos on social networks
The expressions "Good fame lies, but thin runs" and "The Internet remembers everything" are suitable for overly active users of the Network. Frankness plays tricks on them. A new wave of hate is accelerating in the digital space against teachers who once allowed themselves explicit images on personal pages. Some of them have already had to change jobs, but the network algorithm "throws" information to the haters for discussion. On the eve of the new school year, Izvestia figured out where the line between personal space and public space lies in virtual reality, who should not violate it and whether it is possible to pay for it with a workplace.
Which photos are not listed on the Web
From the point of view of clinical psychologist, sexologist Sergey Volkov, the norms of ethics in the case of posts on social networks are easy to verify. It is enough to ask yourself the question: "Am I ready for this content to be seen in reality by all people on the main street, including the consequences of its demonstration?". In other words, isn't it shameful for a person to demonstrate himself in reality in the same way as he exposes himself on a virtual page?
A clinical psychologist warns that the Internet is governed by two of the most powerful biological motivation systems — sexual arousal and aggression. And this should be taken into account when you go online with very personal content.
— If we are not talking about pornography and advertising of intimate services, then people rarely evaluate their images in terms of their sexualization. Meanwhile, explicit photos and videos get a lot more views than regular ones. All the algorithms of social networks and public perception are tuned for this," the clinical psychologist warns.
According to Volkov, since the 80s of the last century, the process of increasing sexualization has begun in our country. Thus, people born after 1985 have a higher reaction to explicit content than to neutral content. It attracts more attention and generates an audience reaction.
— It is precisely for the sake of reaction that such content is created. At the same time, the person himself does not think about its content. He just does what the audience reacts to," the sexologist comments.
It's not just bikini photos that are causing protest. Users believe that images with moments of "quiet family happiness" (food, harvest at the cottage, children's successes) "smell of cabbage soup". Volkov emphasizes that older people usually "sin" with such photos, because they do not realize that social networks are not just a digital album, but a public demonstration.
— Too "homemade" photos are a violation of intimacy, — warns the clinical psychologist. — Moreover, intimacy is a term that initially refers to very personal areas of a person, not necessarily related to sex.
The clinical psychologist explains that the reaction to such old-fashioned photos corresponds to the trend of young people: kringe, zashkvar, facepalm.
What is not allowed for teachers
Before deciding on risky content, the sexologist also advises teachers to use the method with a question.
— Is the teacher ready to teach a lesson in a swimsuit? Let's say a teacher doesn't want students to look at him half-naked in class, but how is this different from browsing the Internet? — says Sergey Volkov.
But the defense mechanism does not always work. From the point of view of a clinical psychologist, people aged 30+ remember how the Internet was born, and consider the Network an alternative to life, a parallel reality.
— In fact, the Network is already a part of reality, — says Volkov. — And if you don't walk naked on the street, then don't go online either, because even more people will see you there than on the street.
The clinical psychologist believes that young people, including teachers, are extremely irresponsible about sexual displays. "These are the fruits of permissiveness on the Web and the uncontrolled explosive growth of sexualized content after the collapse of the USSR," the expert notes.
— It should be noted that sexualization is understood as emphasizing an image that stimulates the assessment of a person as a sexual partner: posture, age, emphasizing certain shapes and attributes, — continues Sergey Volkov. — The image of sexuality in this case is strongly skewed from personal and emotional relationships towards sexual ones, that is, towards pornography.
For a long time, the Internet has been a place of legal anarchy, explains the sexologist. And the opportunity to hide behind a gadget created and creates the illusion of security on the principle of "I can't see you, so you can't see me."
— But in fact, the Internet is a public space. Your personal page has more visits than your living room in a year," the expert summarizes. — The authority of a teacher in front of a student is normally always based on respect. And respect cannot be bought or demanded — the teacher must earn it. When he leaves the classroom, he is still a teacher and, as an adult, is responsible for his relationships with students.
The teacher must keep his distance and gently adjust the boundaries. If such a distance is violated, then, from the point of view of a sexologist, the relationship with the teacher among schoolchildren will be extremely tense.
— Can you take seriously a person who has been seen naked? In this case, a teenager may experience a violation of intimacy itself, both in the direction of protection — disgust at his own sexuality and sex, and in the direction of unhealthy interest and hyper fixation on sexual images," the sexologist continues.
Instead of righteous anger, the specialist advises parents to tell them at home, behind closed doors, in a safe and friendly manner, in an accessible language, without slang and detailed descriptions of physiology, what sexuality is and why it should not be shown to everyone. Then the situation for the child's psyche will come to naught, and the children will gain the experience that such behavior by the teacher is unacceptable, without hitting their own still emerging sexuality.
Alla Georgieva, a civil lawyer, also believes that this issue may be related to a violation of the Federal Law "On the Protection of Children from Information Harmful to their Health and Development."
"Provocative content creates a wrong perception among minors, potentially distorting their psyche, especially when it comes to photos of an extremely intimate nature," comments Alla Georgieva.
However, according to the lawyer, the most appropriate reason for dismissal in such cases is article 81 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for the termination of an employment contract for an employee committing immoral misconduct.
The teacher is also a human being
Mikhail Avdeenko, deputy chairman of the All-Russian Education Trade Union, warns that there are a lot of fakes on the Internet, which teachers can also become victims of. Therefore, it is impossible to off-hand and accuse teachers without a detailed investigation.
— But, unfortunately, such scandals happen online from time to time, — complains Mikhail Avdeenko. — When the first such cases appeared a few years ago, we, together with the Ministry of Education, developed a model Code of Professional Ethics for teaching staff, which sets out the rules of teacher behavior, including on the Internet. And in each educational organization, specific codes are adopted on the basis of this document.
The expert emphasizes that a teacher certainly has the right to privacy, but the teaching profession is special. The teacher is responsible to society and the state. He should not discredit the profession itself and the status of a teacher by his behavior. "A teacher earns his reputation for years, and it can be lost as a result of one ill—considered, irresponsible step," Mikhail Avdeenko emphasized.
The trade union noted that a special booklet with infographics has been created on how to properly behave as a teacher on the Internet, how to design content in social networks, including personal ones.
— This booklet also stipulates that there is legislation on the protection of personal data. However, one should not go to extremes and publish explicit photos and videos on a publicly accessible page," Avdeenko continues.
If the scandalous situation has become public, then the head of an educational organization should not immediately cover the teacher with shame and immediately put him out the door, the Izvestia interlocutor believes. Corporate solidarity is also important.
— Everyone knows the salaries of teachers. Unfortunately, there is no queue of people who want to work in schools. If teachers are dismissed without weighing the pros and cons, then who will teach children the Russian language, literature, and mathematics? - says Avdeenko.
If the publication is not fake and not someone's malicious trick, then the interlocutor of Izvestia advises to find out why the teacher allowed himself to do this, explain to him the rules of behavior. And punitive measures alone will not help — they will only turn other people away from the profession.
A social media page is a person's personal life, and it should not be interfered with, says Dmitry Kazakov, chairman of the independent trade union Uchitel.
— We have morals and we have the right. From a moral point of view, it is wrong to interfere in personal life," Kazakov comments. — I believe that a person should determine for himself that he is crossing some boundaries and behave in accordance with social norms. But this issue is not solved by imposing any fines or dismissals. Otherwise, anything can be considered a violation, which will create even more problems and difficulties.
Dmitry Kazakov, along with a lawyer, emphasizes that in the Labor Code there is such a provision as dismissal for an employee committing immoral misconduct incompatible with continuing work (clause 8, Part 1, Article 81 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation). And special attention in this regulatory act is directed at the activities of education workers.
— The system is legal, but it is impossible to regulate everything only with the help of law and the law, — the expert continues. — Some points should be regulated by morality, conscience, personal ideas about good and evil.
Are social media pages being checked
According to Mikhail Avdeenko, the social media pages of teachers are not checked before employment. Candidates for teachers are required to have a certificate of no criminal record, a medical record, a diploma from a pedagogical university or college (and if there is no specialized education, then a document on special training in pedagogical orientation), as well as a certificate from a psychologist.
However, in some areas, employers may use such a method of evaluating potential employees as browsing personal pages, says the director of the Association for Personnel Development "People. Business. The Future" by Anastasia Yurlova. This is done in order to find discrepancies between what a person broadcasts at an interview and in a resume, and who they are.
— I know from experience that in some business areas, for example, positions in cleaning and waste recycling, they did not hire employees with problematic social networks, because "the team would not understand," the expert comments.
Anastasia Yurlova names marketing agencies, technology businesses, catering, creative and beauty industries among the more loyal industries. There you can meet people who don't fit traditional social patterns.
If an organization does not welcome nude images on an employee's page, employers are unlikely to turn a blind eye to this.
— If a business broadcasts itself as a fighter for traditional values, then the borders will be defended to the end, — Anastasia Yurlova continues. — There are quite a few candidates who actively run social networks — one out of 100, if not less. And employers will simply choose another candidate who is more in line with their values, even with a less strong resume.
