Production of passenger cars in Russia decreased by almost 20%
In May 2025, 35 thousand passenger cars rolled off the assembly lines in Russia, which is 18.5% less than at the end of last spring. This follows from Rosstat data. A total of 281,000 cars were produced from January to May, which is 4% higher than in the first five months of 2024.
The production of trucks in May amounted to 8,900 units, which is 32% less than in May last year. Since the beginning of the year, 58.5 thousand units (-20.1%).
The production of buses with a permissible maximum weight of more than 5 tons in May fell by 36.9% (to 718 units), and since the beginning of the year — by 39.6% (to 3,819 units). As for buses with a maximum permissible weight of no more than 5 tons, production in late spring decreased by 45.1% (to 0.9 thousand units), and in five months — by 19.3% (6.6 thousand units).
In addition, 16,000 internal combustion engines were produced in Russia in May (+0.4%), and 89.4 thousand (-1%) since the beginning of the year.
The day before, it was reported that the Russian car market, which took fifth place in the ranking among European countries in April, dropped to sixth place in May. In May 2025, 91.2 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 28.3% less than in the same month last year.
