Anton Vasiliev, Director of Hexlet IT College, shared his advice on choosing an IT specialty for children on June 27 in an interview with Izvestia.

According to him, it is important to take into account the interests and strengths of the child. If he has a passion for technology and logical tasks, this may be a good sign for choosing a profession in the field of information technology. However, it should be remembered that IT specialties are not limited to technical areas only.

"If a child has an analytical mindset, areas such as programming, working with data, or information security are suitable for him. If you are creative, you should pay attention to design, game creation, and user interface development," the source said.

In addition, sociable and organized children can find themselves in project management or product promotion, he added.

Vasiliev also stressed the importance of the relevance of the chosen direction. Programming and big data analytics remain the main and stable directions in the digital economy. With the development of technology, there is a growing need for cybersecurity specialists.

If the child cannot decide on a choice, the expert recommends trying different directions in practice through online courses or master classes to understand what is really interesting. Consulting with a career guidance specialist can also help in this process.

The director of the IT College noted that universal skills such as programming and working with data provide flexibility for IT professions and can be useful in various fields. However, if a child does not show interest in IT and is drawn to other fields, such as medicine or sports, you should not insist on choosing this specialty.

On May 21, it was reported that one in ten Russians (12%) said that relatives and close people made the decision about their future profession for them. The younger the respondents were, the more often they indicated that they made their own choice: 84% of those surveyed under the age of 18, and 65% of those aged 35-44.
