German painter and sculptor Gunther Jucker has died.

German artist and sculptor Gunther Yucker has died at the age of 95. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on June 11.

"Yukker was born in 1930 in Wendorf and fled East Germany to the West after World War II. He studied at the Dusseldorf Academy of Art, where he developed his signature technique: hundreds of nails driven into canvases create a play of light and shadow that changes depending on the perspective," the newspaper reports.

The causes of Yukker's death are not reported.

In 1957, the artist founded the creative group ZERO. His works often touched on themes of violence and memory — for example, the artist's works include those dedicated to Hiroshima and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
