Imports of used cars in the Russian Federation increased by 23% amid falling imports of new cars

In May 2025, more than 37 thousand used passenger cars were imported to Russia, which is 23% more than in May last year. This was stated by Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, in his Telegram channel on June 10. The total volume of used passenger cars imported in five months exceeded 142 thousand units, which is 2% less than last year's figure.

The most popular brands of used cars in the total volume of imports at the end of spring were Toyota (21.8% share), Honda (16.4%), BMW (8.9%), Kia (8.2%) and Mercedes Benz (5.3%).

The leading models are the Honda Freed (1,480 units), Honda Fit (1,280 units), Toyota Corolla (1,209 units), Honda Stepwgn (923 units), Toyota Yaris (750 units).

Japan accounts for the largest volume of supplies (46%), followed by South Korea (24.5%), China (13%), Georgia (7%) and Belarus (3%), Tselikov calculated.

The ratio of imported cars with the right and left handlebars in May was approximately the same — 50.2% to 49.8%, respectively. At the same time, compared to the same period last year, the import of right-hand drive vehicles is decreasing (-7%), while left-hand drive vehicles are actively growing (+83%), the expert said.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that 17.8 thousand new passenger cars were imported to Russia in May 2025. This is four times (-74.2%) less than in May last year, when imports amounted to 68.9 thousand cars.
