Popular used cars in Russia have fallen in price by 10% in a year

In May, four popular models in the Russian secondary market immediately fell by more than 10% compared to the same period last year. Avito Auto experts told Izvestia about this on June 10.

Compared to May 2024, the acquisition of Renault Logan turned out to be the most profitable, the cost of which decreased by 11.9% to 420 thousand rubles. Volkswagen Polo became cheaper by 11.8% (up to 880 thousand rubles), Kia Rio — by 11.4% (up to 930 thousand rubles), and Hyundai Solaris — by 11% (935 thousand rubles). The offer for Kia Sportage has also become more attractive (-9.7%; 1.58 million rubles).

According to analysts, in May, the average price of used cars decreased by 1.8% compared to the previous month and amounted to 800 thousand rubles. Lada (-2.7%), Toyota (-1.5%) and Chevrolet (-1%) brands lost the most in value. Among the models, the Toyota Camry (-2.4%), Renault Logan (-2.3%), Volkswagen Passat (-1.6%), Lada Kalina (-1.3%) and Skoda Octavia (-1.1%) fell the most noticeably.

At the same time, compared to May 2024, the average price of a car in the secondary market was 5.9% lower. Renault and Hyundai models fell the most in a year (-12.5% and -11.5%, respectively). Kia (-7.4%), Chevrolet (-6.4%) and Nissan (-6.3%) also noticeably fell in price.

Experts explained that in the summer in Russia there is traditionally a decrease in interest in the secondary market. To attract the attention of buyers, sellers often go to lower prices.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that by the end of May in Russia, the average cost of a used car of a foreign brand, excluding brands from China, decreased by almost 20 thousand rubles compared to April and amounted to 2.3 million rubles. The decrease occurred against the background of an increase in the volume of supply in the segment of used cars no older than 15 years.
