NYT reported on Rutte's concerns about the disruption of the NATO summit over Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte fears that the alliance's summit in June may be in danger of disruption due to the conflict between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. This was reported on May 27 by The New York Time s (NYT) newspaper, citing European officials.
"According to European officials and diplomats, the head of NATO wants the alliance's annual summit meeting next month to be short and pleasant in order to prevent open disagreements over Ukraine that marred the meeting two years ago," the publication says.
The publication notes that the presence of Trump, who does not agree with European allies on the future of Ukraine, may complicate Rutte's plans. In addition, Ukraine is actively declaring its desire to join NATO, which causes a negative reaction from the American president. In this regard, Kiev's role at the summit remains uncertain.
The NYT also added that Trump does not support Zelensky, who intends to participate in the summit. However, it is not yet known whether the Ukrainian president will attend the dinner in honor of the opening of the event.
On May 25, Trump said that all Zelensky's statements create problems for Kiev. According to him, the head of the Kiev regime "is not doing anything good for his country." The US President noted that this state of affairs must be stopped.
