The Canadian national team, which has won the World Cup 28 times, played at the current tournament, in particular, three-time Stanley Cup winner and two-time Olympic champion Sidney Crosby, who was elected the most valuable player of the last National Hockey League (NHL) championship. The losing team was also represented by the 2022 Stanley Cup winner Nathan MacKinnon and the first number of the 2024 draft, McLean Celebrini.

Canadian hockey players have not won medals at the second World Cup in a row — last year they lost 2-4 to the Swedish national team in the match for third place.

Leo Karlsson (13, 35), Lucas Raymond (17, 20) and Filip Forsberg (56) scored goals for the winners. Roman Chervenka (24) and Michal Szpacek (49) scored for the losers.

All the quarterfinal pairs of the Hockey World Cup playoffs became known on May 21. The pairs were formed as follows: Canada – Denmark; Sweden – Czech Republic; USA – Finland; Switzerland – Austria. It was noted that the first place will play with the fourth, and the second — with the third.
