- A working group on the pollution situation of the Alatyr River has been established in Mordovia
The authorities of Mordovia have created a working group on the situation with pollution of the Alatyr River. This was announced on May 22 by the head of the republic, Artyom Zdunov.
"Together with the heads of districts, representatives of federal regulatory authorities, relevant departments and ministries, we discussed the environmental situation on the Alatyr River," Zdunov wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the authorities of Mordovia have created an operational working group and will conduct additional studies of the water in the river, the results of which will be presented by June 1.
It is specified that the prosecutor's office, together with the Ministry of Agriculture of the republic, will check local sewage treatment plants.
"The most important thing now is to protect people's health, preserve our nature and prevent the recurrence of these incidents," Zdunov added.
On April 29, it became known that the Alatyr River in Mordovia is heavily polluted due to the activities of large enterprises dumping waste into the reservoir. Later, on May 19, the administration of the Alatyr municipal District of Chuvashia urged local residents not to eat fish from the Alatyr River because of its mass death. In addition, the administration asks residents and guests to refrain from visiting the Alatyr River in the coming days.
The Ministry of Natural Resources of Chuvashia clarified that the Alatyr River is polluted by the effluents of two Mordovian enterprises. The main source of pollution is the Kemlyansky distillery. In addition, the discharge is carried out by Ichkalovsky Cheese Factory LLC.
