There have been 235 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 235 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 18 people were killed and 260 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on May 14 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
18 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and another 20 road users needed medical attention. Five bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
As a result of 61 accidents, 20 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 41 outside their area of operation, three pedestrians were killed, 58 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 18 child pedestrians, 12 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. 38 adult pedestrians were injured in similar circumstances.
Over the past day, 45 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 46 young road users were injured, including 20 passengers, 18 pedestrians, four cyclists and three motor transport drivers under the age of 16. There are no dead children.
With the onset of the motorcycle season, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged motor vehicle drivers to follow the rules of the road — choose a safe speed, observe the side interval and distance with other vehicles, as well as use protective equipment and a motorcycle helmet. Motorists, in turn, should be more tolerant of two-wheeled road users, regularly look in the rear-view mirrors and also comply with traffic regulations, the department noted.
"We recommend that motorists be extremely focused when passing intersections in order to control the situation and be able to respond to maneuvers by motor vehicle drivers. In addition, we urge parents to prevent minors from using motor vehicles until they reach the appropriate age and obtain a driver's license of the required category. Be careful and remember that the life and health of children depend entirely on each of you," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the State Duma is preparing to adopt a government bill that expands the rights of the State Traffic Inspectorate to revoke and revoke a driver's license. It has been finalized for the second reading. The procedure will be applied if there are contraindications to driving during a medical examination or medical examination.
