Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has approved an updated concept for the sustainable development of indigenous peoples until 2036. This was announced on May 11 on the website of the Government of the Russian Federation.

It is specified that the implementation of the document will begin on January 1, 2026 and will affect the peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East.

"The main objectives of the concept are the economic, social and cultural development of indigenous peoples, the preservation of their ancestral territories of residence, as well as the support of their traditional way of life, economic activities and culture," the publication says.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers, it is planned to create a comfortable living environment: improved communication and Internet access, expansion of the network of multifunctional public service centers and the development of medicine using telemedicine technologies.

It is noted that education will be a priority: schools will receive modern equipment and textbooks in their native languages, and the languages of the peoples will be supported in the digital space.

As for the preservation of ethno-cultural heritage, an action plan will be developed within six months to promote cultural sites and support theaters operating in native languages.

Last June, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the development of the Far East a priority for the entire 21st century. He stressed that Yakutia needs to increase its energy capacity, as well as strengthen education that trains the specialists needed by the region.
